Meet Ray

Ray Tarkington was born in Nashville and attended Battleground Academy in Franklin and David Lipscomb College in Nashville. He studied real estate at the University of Tennessee in Nashville, completing the real estate certification program, and received a diploma in Business Management through the America Management Association Program at Belmont College.

In 1959 he obtained his real estate license and worked as an agent for several companies prior to opening his own firm, the Ray Tarkington Company, in 1965. (Which later became Tarkington Company, and then Tarkington & Harwell.) His focus over the years has been mainly on commercial investment properties, property management, and client acquisition of real estate.

Ray has been an active member in the real estate community and has served as President of the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors and Director and Regional Vice President of the Tennessee Association of Realtors. He also served as Commissioner of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission under Governor Lamar Alexander for five years.

Ray is a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, where he serves as an Elder. He is the father of two grown children and his interests include visiting and studying historical sites and various outdoor activities.
